Caring for the Older Adult with Cancer: Current Best Practices
This symposium is intended to meet the educational needs of RNs, NPs, LVNs involved in the care of older adults in all practice settings. The greatest risk factor for developing cancer is aging. More than 60% of cancers in the US occur in persons 65 years and older. According to the American Cancer Society, older adults have a 30 – 40 % probability for developing cancer. Older adults with cancer have different needs than their younger counterparts. As health professionals, we need to understand these unique needs as well as how to communicate with the team caring for the person. Geriatric care requires specialized knowledge and skills. This symposium will enhance the expertise, effectiveness, and confidence in nurses who are working with older oncology patients in any setting.
At the completion of this symposium, the nurse should be able to:
Total Symposium Hours: 8.25 hours CNE credits (60 minutes= 1 credit)
Attendance Limited to 100 ($65 nonrefundable payment)
